Buck's Smoked Beef Brisket

I tried to rob my grandbaby. Not for drugs. Not for gambling. I needed to pay for gas and groceries.

Before I get into that story, I want to be clear.

I don't get into politics. Never have. I don't trust the left, and I don't trust the right. Far as I can tell, both sides are just arguing over who gets to reach into my wallet next.

So I'll keep my opinions on all that to myself.

But I can tell you this much. Everything costs more this year than it did last year. WAY more. I don't need a politician or an economist to break it down for me. I figured it out at the checkout line like everybody else.

And here's what really gets at me.

All these reminders about how much more I'm spending.

It's not enough that I'm paying double for everything. Now my phone buzzes to remind me about it.

My banking app just told me I'm spending 22% more on groceries than last year.

My credit monitoring app sent me a potential fraud alert.I saw that my gas expenses had more than doubled year over year.

Gee. Thanks. Hadn't noticed.😒

The one piece of good news?

Gas prices have finally started coming down a little. And not a moment too soon, because it was getting downright ridiculous out there.

A few weeks ago, I tried to shake down a six-year-old for some money. I put the red bandana over my mouth, turned my fist into a pistol, and I crept up on her quietly as she was playing in her room.

I told her “Hand over the piggy bank!”

It was a fight or flight moment for her.

It seems flight was never an option.

That girl got up so quick, it made my head spin.

She threw a good ten punches at my thighs, but the problem was her aim was just a little off.

One of those punches hit me right in the crotch.

I'm not good at many things. It seems I get to add robbing children to that list now.

Anybody else feeling the financial squeeze this year?

Enjoy your Sunday!
