Buck's Pork Fried Rice

My granddaughter called me frustrated the other night.

She'd spent an hour making a lasagna from scratch. Enough for two nights, which if you know anything about cooking, is the whole point of lasagna. The effort pays off twice.

Before she even sat down, her roommate walked in, grabbed a plate, and scraped half the cheese right off the top.

Not a small scoop. Half the cheese. Gone.

My granddaughter didn't know how to handle it.

She called me asking how to bring it up without making things awkward. I told her not to overthink it. Just have the conversation. She said her roommate doesn't always take things well.

That's when I started asking more questions.

Turns out this isn't the first time. Little things here and there. Inconsiderate stuff. And apparently the roommate has a hard time keeping boyfriends, which, after hearing the lasagna story, I told my granddaughter I completely understood why.

My advice was simple. When you reheat that lasagna tonight, buy a fresh bag of cheese and reapply a proper layer. Get rid of the old layer.  And while you're at it, get rid of her old roommate.

My wife said I was being too harsh.

Maybe. But I'll tell you this, a person who takes half the cheese before the cook even sits down is telling you exactly who they are.

An asshole.

You don't need to wait around for further proof.

Has someone ever done something small that told you everything you needed to know about them?

Enjoy your Sunday!
