Seems my wife doesn't understand basic science.
The other night, my wife wasn't feeling great. So I did the loving husband thing and made her a big bowl of soup.
I brought it to her like I was serving the Queen of England.
She took one sip and winced.
Then she said, "Buck, this is too hot. You had the burner cranked to 10. You should've used a 4."
I told her the heat setting didn't matter. Water boils at 212 degrees and that's it.
You can put it on 4, you can put it on 10, you can put it on a thousand. Once it hits 212, it turns to steam.
It does not get hotter. That's just science.
She did not care for my science.
She doubled down. Said if I'd cooked it on a lower setting, the soup wouldn't have come out so hot.
And here's where I should've kept my mouth shut.
Instead of letting it go, I decided to prove my point with a story.
I told her, "Babe, this reminds me of a girl I dated before I met you."
(First mistake: Never start a sentence with your wife that way.)
I told her this old girlfriend was baking something and needed melted chocolate in ten minutes.
So you know what she did? She put the chocolate in the microwave. For ten minutes. Because she figured ten minutes in equals ten minutes melted.
I was laughing hard at my own joke.
However, if looks could kill, the look my wife gave me would have murdered me ten times over.
She just stared at me with that look. The one that says you are sleeping closer to the dog tonight than you are to me.
Then she said, "So let me get this straight. I to dumb to understand science AND I'm as dumb as your ex-girlfriend?"
I started backpedaling on the words. The problem was I was stumbling as I backpedaled.
I tried to explain that wasn't what I meant. That the chocolate and the water were the same scientific principle.
She told me exactly where I could shove my signs and my ex-girlfriend.
I know defeat when it comes. So I just grabbed my bowl of soup and went into the room to have it.
The soup was, in fact, very hot.
I sure love the ex-girlfriend comment out. For sure.
But was I wrong to die on the 212-degree hill here?
Enjoy your Sunday!
