Somebody in Houston is driving a chariot of death.

My wife and I spent last weekend in Houston visiting family.

Good food. Good company. Humidity so thick you could chew it.

On Saturday we were sitting at a red light when I looked over and saw this:

Y'all, I sat there trying to figure out what in the hell I was looking at.

Those aren't rims. That's a weapon.

Those chrome spikes stick a good two feet out from the car. It looked like something out of a Mad Max movie. Or one of those old Roman chariots with blades on the wheels, built to mow down anybody standing too close.

My grandson told me they're called "swangas," and they're a Houston thing. I saw at least four more before the weekend was over.

I Have Questions

How is this legal?

I can't put a trailer hitch on my truck without worrying about some yahoo backing into it. Meanwhile this fella is rolling down I-45 with two feet of chrome lances on each side.

What happens when he parallel parks? What happens when somebody on a bicycle gets too close? What happens at the car wash?

There's no way those things don't get bent, busted, or knocked clean off. Then he's out a few thousand dollars and somebody else is out a kneecap.

And honestly? They aren't even good looking. It looks like the car is getting ready to joust.

My wife and I disagree on just about everything. How to load the dishwasher. How to cut a pizza. Whether I'm funny.

But on this one, we're 100% united.

She looked at it for a long second and said, "That man is one bad lane change away from turning a biker into pulled pork.."

I've never loved her more.

Have you seen these things where you live? And if you've got them, please tell me what the point is, because I'm trying to understand.

Enjoy your Sunday!
