I'm going to admit something before I say anything else.
I'm stubborn.
I don't like change. Never have. If everybody on this earth thought the way I do, we'd still be churning our own butter and dying from things a $4 pill fixes now.
So keep that in mind while you read this.
This week I came across an article about a neighborhood that put up a whole mess of surveillance cameras.

Here's the part that got me.
Not one of those cameras was pointed at a main road or a highway.
Now, I'm no lawman. But I always figured that's where a camera earns its keep. Somebody steals a car, robs a store, hits a mailbox and takes off; they've got to drive somewhere. Point the thing at the road, and you've got a shot at catching them.
Every single one of these was aimed at the neighborhood. And the park.
I've been chewing on that all week.
If they're not watching the roads, and they're watching folks walking their dogs and kids on a swing set instead... what exactly are they looking for?
I don't have an answer. That's the honest truth.
I brought it up to my wife and she told me I was overthinking it. Then she reminded me I still write checks at the grocery store, so my opinions on technology carry about as much weight as a paper sack.
Fair enough.
But I'm asking anyway, and I mean it sincerely.
What do you think those cameras are actually there for? Am I missing something obvious?
I'm not trying to make a point or start anything. For once in my life, I'd honestly like somebody who knows better to tell me I've got it wrong.
Enjoy your Sunday!
