Bald Buck - Mushroom Risotto

This sticker was on the envelope of our friend’s mother’s death certificate

I was taken aback when she showed us the picture.

My wife and I assumed that this sticker was accidentally placed on that package.

However, it was still horrifically insensitive.

We gave her our condolences and apologies.

But when we did that, she looked at us and laughed.

We looked at her like she had two heads.

It just didn't seem like a moment where laughter was appropriate.

Then she told us the death of her mother, while sad, may be one of the best things that ever happened to her.

She told us that her mother was a terrible bitch.

She told us that when she was five, she could remember being slapped on the face routinely for doing something as small as accidentally touching her mother.

Y'all, for once in my long life, I was at a loss for words.

So, I just sat there and listened.

When she continued to talk about everything, her emotional reactions went from laughter to tears and back to laughter.

I figured the best thing I could do was give her space to process all that.

However, I'm very interested. What would you say or do in that situation?

I've never met anybody who was happy that their parent died.

However, I'm sure there are several reasons why someone might feel that way.

Enjoy your Sunday!
